Getting out of the Funk

Some days I can’t seem to motivate myself enough to do all the things I would want to do in a day. Laying in bed or just keeping my nose in a book all day might be enough to satisfy me. Boredom might attack and I would wonder what is there to do besides surf the internet.

In my family a laptop provides us with most entertainment. We have long said goodbye to television and even radios. The Jane Austen movies are my favorite kinds of movies to watch when I feel a bit bored and unappreciative of time without TV. In these Jane Austen movies I enjoy seeing how these women improved their minds to combat boredom. Marianne from Sense and Sensibility, how she masters the Piano. All three sisters learn french , quilts, spends time in the garden planting or going out for long walks. I love seeing how they can keep entertained without technology and that is something I hope to add to my life as well.

As a result of this, I went out to town full of excitement. Where I live does not have a vast variety of paints and the kind that might be considered “good” are way too expensive for me who has never painted before. Instead, I went in search of the cheapest I could find, the kinds that we used in kindergarten and Primary School , Non toxic which is great as there is a newborn with us now.

As soon as I arrived home my sister and I searched for some simple tutorials. She was home all day and as she stated, she was dying of boredom. Before I knew it we had gone through three tutorials, painting all through the afternoon and enjoying every bit of it. We laughed at our errors, used our cheap paint brushes regardless of the quality.

Sometimes just doing something new/different from usual can get the sunlight back to your day. Involve others to create a wonderful family activity. Painting was absolutely wonderful and such a great way to tackle boredom and lack of inspiration.

If you seem to be in search of something new, think of something simple and affordable that you might have been thinking of doing for a while now. Just do it and add it to the list of wonderful experiences you allowed yourself to have in this lifetime.

PS: Painting a sunset almost always makes you feel good.
